Abstract
BACKGROUND: Since the time when drugs began to be used, it became evident that they could produce a therapeutic effect, but also a clinical condition of toxicity or no effect at all on humans, despite using the same doses in different patients. Such untoward effects were termed "drug idiosyncrasy" and also "idiosyncratic drug effects", but the factors producing such diverse responses were never taken into account.Entities:

Results are expressed as mean ± Standard Deviation (SD).
Mann–Whitney U test (p <0.05), with respect to the saline solution.
R. chalepensis plus DEX, both at 100-mg/kg/day doses.
Quantification of mRNA levels in Wistar rat liver as a result of intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of aqueous extract of Ruta chalepensis for 3 consecutive days (n = 25)[a]
| Treatment | Media ± DE (µL/ng) |
|---|---|
| 29 ± 1.6* | |
| Dexamethasone (100 mg/kg/day) | 23 ± 2.0* |
| 26 ± 1.0 | |
| 25 ± 2.1* | |
| [ | 20 ± 1.2* |
Results are expressed as mean ± Standard Deviation (SD). Post Hoc Tukey (p<0.05), with respect to the saline solution.
R. chalepensis plus DEX, both at 100-mg/kg/day doses.
Figure 1Effect of the aqueous extract of Ruta chalepensis on the expression of messenger RNA (mRNA) of CYP3a1 in Wistar rat (n = 25) after 72h of treatment. Results aree expressed as the number of times of change compared with the control group (n=5), which was administered saline solution. Interaction: Ruta chalepensis (100 mg/kg/day) plus Dexamethasone (DEX) (100 mg/kg/day).

Figure 3Transformation of the percentage of mortality of Artemia salina for the aqueous extract of Ruta chalepensis. Each point represents the mean of three repetitions per dose. The median Lethal Dose (LD50) calculated was 109.93 µg/mL.
