Abstract
The brain is a critical target organ for thyroid hormones, and modifications in memory and cognition happen with thyroid dysfunction. The exact mechanisms underlying learning and memory impairments due to hypothyroidism have not been understood yet. Therefore, this review was aimed to compress the results of previous studies which have examined the contribution of brain tissues oxidative damage in hypothyroidism-associated learning and memory impairments.Entities:

Figure 1Possible mechanism(s) of impairing effects of hypothyroidism on memory and cognition. Hypothyroidism elevates reactive oxygen species generation via different pathways. Continuous lines represent the different pathways which finally lead to reactive oxygen species production
Effects of hypothyroidism on the activity/abundance of antioxidant enzymes and the oxidative status in different parts of the brain
