Fig. 1Diagram of participant flow in postmenopausal Korean women divided into a 70 mg/day isoflavones group and a placebo group for 12 weeks.
This study was analysis for intent to treat: Placebo (n = 43), Isoflavones (n = 41)
Comparison of the sociodemographic and health-related behaviors in postmenopausal Korean women with isoflavones and placebo group
Values are mean ± SD or n (%).
No significant difference between groups by t-test at P < 0.05 or Chi-square test.
Comparison of the climacteric symptoms and hot flashes by Kupperman index and MENQOL in postmenopausal Korean women (n=84) taking 70 mg/day isoflavones group and placebo group
1) Kupperman index was used to evaluate the overall climacteric symptoms based on the presence of 25 items: normal < 20, mild: 20-40, severe > 40 total score.
2) Menopausal-specific quality of life questionnaire was developed as a condition-specific, self-completed, outcome tool to assess the impact of this life event and to evaluate interventions. It consists of 29 items divided into four domains: vasomotor (3 items), psychosocial (7 items), physical (16 items), and sexual (3 items) on quality of life in postmenopausal women.
3) Data are expressed as mean ± SD.
† P-values were estimated using Student's t-test or § repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni's post hoc test.
Subgroup analysis by years since menopause
1) Kupperman index was used to evaluate the overall climacteric symptoms based on the presence of 25 items: normal < 20, mild: 20-40, severe > 40 total score.

Comparison of the markers of bone formation and resorption concentrations in postmenopausal Korean women with isoflavones and placebo group
Values are mean ± SD.
† Values are significantly different between groups by t-test at P < 0.05.
* Values are significantly different from baseline by paired t-test at P < 0.05.
