Abstract
The treatment of HIV has improved over the last decade due in part to the success of treatment with combination-therapy drug "cocktails," better referred to as highly active antiretroviral therapy. The safety and efficacy of these regimens is often complicated by the presence of infectious hepatitis and occurrence of drug-induced liver injury. In most patients, these complications manifest as mild laboratory abnormalities and exist without clinical consequence. However, acute and chronic hepatic injury may lead to increased morbidity and mortality. It is essential to identify all potential causes of liver injury to correctly implement steps to alleviate the condition while maintaining optimal control of HIV viremia.Entities:
