Abstract
Two atlantic voyages were made by the FS Meteor during which pollen and spores were collected from the air. In the course of 32 days the average pollen content was 29/100 m3 air, the average spore content came to 5x104/100 m3 air. Both voyages occurred in late autumn. On the trip from Hamburg to the Azores the spore content increased with distance from the European continent. On the voyage from Hamburg to the West Indies most spores were registered in the southern North Sea and the English Channel. In explaining these concentrations during the collecting period special meteorological circumstances have to be considered. The origin of the spores in discussed. The spores collected near the Azores were probably from Western Europe. They covered a distance of more than 1000km. The highest concentration was nearly 2000 spores/m3 air.Year: 1975 PMID: 28308680 DOI: 10.1007/BF00345425
