FIGURE 1The pulmonary microbiome of children with persistent bacterial bronchitis (PBB). DNA was extracted from bronchial brushes of 24 PBB children and 18 healthy controls and 16S rRNA gene qPCR quantified the bacterial burden prior to sequencing. Permutational multivariate analysis of variance shows that total community dissimilarity is significantly different (R2=0.08, p=0.004) and indicator species analysis shows that Haemophilus is significantly associated with PBB.
