Abstract
OBJECTIVES: Frequent attenders (FAs) suffer more and consult general practitioners (GPs) more often for chronic physical and psychiatric illnesses, social difficulties and distress than non-FAs. However, it is unclear to what extent FAs present transient episodes of care (TECs) compared with non-FAs.Entities:

*Non-FAs are non-frequent attenders, 1yFA, 2yFA and 3yFA are frequent attenders during 1, 2, and 3 years, respectively.
†RFE denotes reason for encounter.
CECs, chronic episodes of care; TEC, transient episode of care.
