Abstract
BACKGROUND: Breastfeeding is associated with multiple domains of health for both mothers and children. Nevertheless, breastfeeding initiation is low within certain developed countries. Furthermore, comparative studies of initiation rates using harmonised data across multiple regions is scarce.Entities:

Note: Levels of family income differ across cohorts. For Quebec, annual income is reported. Level 1 represents an income of less than $20,000 (Canadian dollars), level 2: $20,000–39,999, level 3: $40,000–59,999 and level 4: $60,000 and higher. For France, monthly income is reported. Level 1 represents an income of less than 1,500€ (Euro), level 2: 1,501–2,300€, level 3: 2,301–3,000€ and level 4: 3,001€ and higher. The percentages representing maternal country of birth is Canada in the Quebec cohort and France in the France cohort.

Note: Family income assessments were not directly comparable so quartiles of income to allow for comparison across cohorts were created.
For maternal country of birth the reference categories were Canada for QLSCD and France for EDEN. The first column in the table represents the interaction term when both cohorts were combined into one model, not the coefficient of the combined cohorts, followed by the results for each cohort separately. The Nagelkerke Pseudo r2 is reported as a measure of model fit where the likelihood values range between 0 and 1.
