Abstract
BACKGROUND: People with intellectual disability have been found to have higher prevalence of psychiatric disorders than the general population. However, they do not seem to have a corresponding increase in psychiatric care utilization. The aim of the present study was to investigate psychiatric care utilization among older people with intellectual disability.Entities:

Number of registrations per person with at least one registration during 2002–2012, and LOS for those with at least one inhospital registration, among people with intellectual disability (ID) and an age and sex matched sample from the general population (gPop). p-values are calculated using the Mann-Whitney U-test

Registrations where the primary diagnosis is intellectual disability (F7 in ICD-10) are excluded

Number of people with at least one registration during 2002–2012, and number of registrations per person with at least one, among people with intellectual disability
aComparisons between number of people with at least one registration are made using odds ratios (ORs) with 95 % confidence intervals, whereas comparisons between number of registrations per person are compared using Mann-Whitney U-test
