Abstract
Chromosomes of the halophilic archaebacterium Halobacterium salinarium were examined by electron microscopy after being spread onto water. The major part of the chromosomal DNA was associated with protein particles with diameter of 9.4 nm, arranged tandemly along the DNA fibers. Thus, the primary structure of the chromosome resembles that of eucaryote chromosomes.Entities:
