Abstract

A total synthesis of a proposed structure of marineosin A has been achieved. The key steps involve Lewis acid catalyzed spirocyclizaton, ring-closing metathesis, Paal-Knorr pyrrole synthesis, and a Vilsmeier-Haack type reaction with Tf2O.
