Abstract
BACKGROUND: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is an urgent public health priority. It is a neglected issue in women's health, especially in urban slums in Nepal and globally. This study was designed to better understand the IPV experienced by young pregnant women in urban slums of the Kathmandu Valley, as well as to identify their coping strategies, care and support seeking behaviours. Womens' views on ways to prevent IPV were also addressed.Entities:

aAccording to general code, Nepali people are divided into four hierarchies: Tagadhari (castes wearing sacred thread) considered as upper caste; Matawali (Alcohol-drinking castes) considered as marginalized caste; Pani nachalne chhoi chitto halnunaparne (Impure but touchable castes) and Pani nachalne chhoi chitto halnu parne (untouchable castes) were considered as lower castes. Details about reasons behind hierarchical positions are described elsewhere [51]. bLove/inter-caste marriage- In love marriage couple decide to get married with or without parents approval and if couples belongs to different castes and get married with or without parents approval is considered as inter-caste marriage.
