Cholesteatoma: what is it, how did it get there, and how do we get rid of it?

Abstract

Cholesteatoma has been recognized as a clinical entity for over 150 years. Our understanding of its pathogenesis and treatment has evolved over this time. This article traces our changing concepts of treatment from life-saving radical procedures to more purposeful and limited techniques.
