Abstract
BACKGROUND: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is increasing worldwide, and previous studies have shown that inadequate sleep duration and skipping breakfast may be related to metabolic syndrome. Therefore, we investigated the effects of inadequate sleep and skipping breakfast on metabolic syndrome using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) IV & V reports (2007-2009 and 2010-2012, respectively).Entities:

Basic characteristics of study populations (n=12,999)
Values are presented as number (%).
BMI, body mass index calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared.
*From a t-test for continuous variables and χ2 test for categorical variables comparing a difference between normal group and metabolic syndrome group.
Analyses of sleep duration and breakfast eating with metabolic syndrome according to age*
Values are presented as odds ratio (95% confidence interval).
*Multiple logistic regression, adjusted for age, sex, household income, education level, smoking status, alcohol drinking, physical activity, and total daily energy intake.
