Sports history pertains to primary sport (ie, the sport in which the respondent was most invested). All P values are from independent-samples t tests and analyses of variance comparing mean PCS and MCS scores among demographic groups. MCS, mental health composite score; PCS, physical health composite score.
Levels of contact in sport: collision = men’s football and wrestling; high contact = men’s basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and women’s basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, and soccer; low/noncontact = men’s baseball, cross-country, diving, fencing, swimming, tennis, track and field, and women’s cross-country, diving, equestrian, fencing, golf, gymnastics, rowing, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and cheerleading.
