Abstract
This article presents a case of purple urine bag syndrome (PUBS) with purple discoloration of urine in a patient with bilateral nephrostomy and acute renal failure. The discoloration of the urine is a product of bacterial metabolism. In principle, PUBS is benign and not of relevance for prognosis. However, it must be taken seriously as an indication for urinary tract infection and treated accordingly. Important for treatment is adequate urologic hygiene and care of urinary catheters for prevention of bacterial contamination as well as avoiding obstipation.Entities:
