Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To analyze alterations in thyroid function and the correlation between results of thyroid function test and mortality in medical and surgical intensive care unit (ICU) patients. It also aimed to evaluate the effect of thyroid dysfunction in ICU patients and their need for mechanical ventilation (MV).Entities:

Fig.2Median length of intensive care unit stay among survivors was five days (range, 4.0-11.0 days) for patients euthyroid patients, four days (range, 3.0-8.8 days) for hypothyroid patients, seven days (range, 4.5-12.0 days) for hyperthyroid patients, and five days (3.0-11.0 days) cases with euthyroid sick syndrome.
