Everyday ethics: learning from an 'ordinary' consultation in general practice.

Caroline Allison1.

Abstract

The author uses a constructed case to analyse some of the ethical decisions that UK general practitioners face in everyday settings. A variety of ethical frameworks and empirical primary healthcare literature are used to demonstrate how ethical tools may be used by clinicians in primary healthcare to reflect on their decisions in practice. The GP consultation context can make 'on the spot' ethical decisions difficult and varied.
