Abstract
BACKGROUND: Glucose intolerance in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) has been inconsistently reported. Evidence for the association of ALS and diabetes mellitus is limited. We aimed to assess the overall and age- and sex-specific risks of ALS among patients with diabetes in Taiwan.Entities:

ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; CI, confidence interval; HR, hazard ratio; ID, incidence density.
Inconsistency between total population and population summed for individual variable was due to missing information.
aBased on Poisson assumption.
bBased on Cox proportional hazard regression with adjustment for sex, age, geographic area, urbanization status, Charlson Comorbidity Index, frequency of medical visit, history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
