Figure 1ANS-grounding of math skills provides a link between the levels of arithmetic fluency and ANS acuity. Less noisy (i.e., sharper) ANS supports more accurate associative arithmetic retrieval. In turn, math practice, especially explicit or implicit magnitude discrimination tasks not only improves the arithmetic skills, but also sharpens the discrimination process and the underlying noisy magnitudes by means of top-down generative processing.
