Abstract
BACKGROUND: Since the burden of neuropathic pain (NeP) increases with pain severity, it is important to characterize and quantify pain severity when identifying NeP patients. This study evaluated whether painDETECT, a screening questionnaire to identify patients with NeP, can distinguish pain severity.Entities:

Notes:
Average pain severity was classified based on the Brief Pain Inventory – Short Form scores of 0–3 for mild, 4–6 for moderate, and 7–10 for severe pain
P-values across pain-severity levels are from the Kruskal–Wallis test for continuous variables; from the χ2 test for number of comorbid conditions, and from Fisher’s exact test for the remaining categorical variables.
Abbreviations: NA, not applicable; SD, standard deviation; BPI-SF, Brief Pain Inventory – Short Form; NeP, Neuropathic Pain.
