Abstract
This article describes the evolution and state-of-the-art of navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation for evaluation of patients with brain tumors in presumed eloquent location. Alternative noninvasive technologies for functional brain mapping are described and assessed in the context of their usability and clinical needs. In addition to the description of the current validation level and clinical application of navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation for motor and language mapping, the manuscript highlights ongoing research efforts and provides an outlook on upcoming developments in the field of noninvasive brain mapping. Finally, the clinical rationale for presurgical noninvasive brain mapping is discussed in the light of current developments in neurosurgery.Entities:
