Liver stem cells, where art thou?

Markus Grompe1.

Abstract

Facultative liver stem cells have long been thought to be an important source of new hepatocytes during chronic liver injury. This longstanding paradigm is being challenged by two papers discussed herein (Schaub et al., 2014; Yanger et al., 2014).
