Abstract
Seven patients with Fabry's disease and severe pain received carbamazepine (CMZ). Five of 7 patients had moderate to complete relief based upon self-assessment of pain levels. Preexisting autonomic dysfunction was exacerbated by CMZ in 2. Complications encountered were ileus, urinary retention, and gastrointestinal disturbance. Although CMZ was useful in treatment of pain, caution should be employed in this disease.Entities:
