Abstract
BACKGROUND: Surveys for chronic diseases, and large epidemiological studies of their determinants, often acquire data through self-report since it is feasible and efficient. We examined validity and associations of self-reported hypertension, as verified by physician telephone interview among participants in a large ongoing Thai Cohort Study (TCS).Entities:

| 3 age/year participant diagnosed with HT | 3 not applicable |
| 4.1 Diagnosed by physician or nurse | 4.1 never diagnosed with HT |
| 4.2 Can give name of hospital or clinic where participant was diagnosed HT | 4.2 not applicable |
| 6.1 Systolic blood pressure >140 | 6.1 Systolic blood pressure <140 |
| 6.2 Diastolic blood pressure>90 | 6.2 Diastolic blood pressure <90 |
| 7 Takes anti-hypertensive drug(s) | 7 No anti-hypertensive drug(s) |
| 9 Names any anti-hypertensive drug | 8 No anti-hypertensive drug named |
