Abstract
The successful isolation and culture of vascular endothelial cells has led to an upsurge of interest in their role in such diverse processes as thrombogenesis, atherosclerosis and tumour growth. In this article we have outlined methods for the culture and characterization of endothelial cells from large vessels, capillary and post-capillary venules of lymph nodes. Comparison of their immunological and metabolic properties illustrates the heterogeneity within the vasculature. The effect of growth and angiogenic factors on these cells and the efficacy of their use in culture medium is considered.Entities:
