Cuticular hydrocarbons of adults of the cowpea weevil,Callosobruchus maculatus.

J E Baker1, D R Nelson.

Abstract

The composition of the cuticular hydrocarbons of the cowpea weevil,Callosobruchus maculatus (F.), was determined by using combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The hydrocarbons constituted 88% of the cuticular lipids and were composed of four homologous series of alkanes. Mono- and dimethyl branched-chain alkanes made up 83% of the hydrocarbon fraction.
