Abstract
BACKGROUND: Several epidemiologic studies have reported an inverse association between serum levels of carotenoids and cardiovascular disease risk. However, no studies have reported an association between serum carotenoids and N-terminal pro-brain-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in the general population.Entities:

Abbreviation: NT-proBNP, N-terminal pro-brain-type natriuretic peptide.
aAdjusted for age, body mass index, smoking habit, drinking habit, estimated glomerular filtration rate, total cholesterol, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, hemoglobin A1c, and systolic blood pressure.
Data are expressed as odds ratio (95% CI).
Elevated NT-proBNP was defined as a level ≥55 pg/ml.
