Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Population monitoring and screening of blood pressure is an important part of any population health strategy. Qualified health workers are expensive and often unavailable for screening. Non-health workers with electronic blood pressure monitors are increasingly used in community-based research. This approach is unvalidated. In a poor, urban community we compared blood pressure measurements taken by non-health workers using electronic devices against qualified health workers using mercury sphygmomanometers.Entities:

Fig. 1Bland–Altman plots of the blood pressure differences between each possible pair of device-operator combination: (a) diastolic pressure and (b) systolic pressure. The solid horizontal line indicates the mean difference between the measures, the dashed horizontal lines indicate the 95% limits of agreement.
Fig. 2Ogives showing the proportion (y-axis) of blood pressure measures with an absolute difference of no more than a certain pressure (x-axis) for three of the four possible pairs of device-operator combinations.
