Abstract
BACKGROUND AND THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The potential of pectin as a bacterially degradable polysaccharide for colon drug delivery has been demonstrated. Due to the high solubility and swelling properties of pectin in aqueous media, it is frequently used in combination with water insoluble polymers for targeting drugs to the colon. The aim of this study was to evaluate free films containing pectin as a bacterially-degradable polysaccharide in combination with Eudragit RL (ERL) and/or RS (ERS) as a coating formulation for colonic drug delivery.Entities:
