Psychiatric state assessment of the IBS patients [17]
| Normal | Patients with a GHQ28 score < 23. |
|---|---|
| The presence of at least one of the following disorders: major depressive disorder (MDD), minor depressive disorder or dysthymic disorder. | |
| The presence of at least one of the following disorders: phobia, panic attacks, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). | |
| Having both anxiety and depression criteria simultaneously. | |
Subtyping IBS using the predominant stool pattern [17]
| IBS with constipation (IBS-C) | Hard or lumpy stools for ≥ 25% of bowel movements and loose (mushy) or watery stools for < 25% of bowel movements. |
|---|---|
| IBS with diarrhea (IBS-D) | Loose (mushy) or watery stools for ≥ 25% of bowel movements and hard or lumpy stool for < 25% of bowel movements. |
| Mixed IBS (IBS-M) | Hard or lumpy stools for ≥ 25% of bowel movements and loose (mushy) or watery stools for ≥ 25% of bowel movements. |
| Unsubtyped IBS | Insufficient abnormality of stool consistency to meet criteria for IBSC, IBS-D or IBS-M. |
