Abstract

In the title compound, trans-[RhCl{P(C(10)H(7))(3)}(2)(CO)]·3C(3)H(6)O, where P(C(10)H(7))(3) is trinaphthyl-phosphine, the Rh-P bond lengths are 2.3360 (10) and 2.3258 (10) Å, while the Rh-Cl bond length is 2.3525 (11) Å. The coordination around the Rh atom shows a slightly distorted square-planar arrangement.

Symmetrical square-planar complexes of Rh, Ir, Pd and Pt often crystallize with the metal atom on a crystallographic centre of symmetry, thus imposing a disordered packing arrangement. The present study is part of an ongoing investigation into determining which factors govern a disordered packing mode. The title compound is one of the few examples which does not show disorder along the carbonyl/chlorido axis. For similar non-disordered compounds, see: Burgoyne et al. (2010 ▶); Makhoba et al.
