Abstract
PURPOSE: Oxidative stress and angiogenesis are important elements in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases and cancer. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one of the most potent angiogenic cytokines and is up-regulated by conditions associated with the generation of free radicals and reactive oxygen intermediates. In this study, we investigated the association between oxidative stress and serum VEGF status in patients with breast cancer.Entities:

Patients' characteristics (n=40)
Levels of VEGF, MDA, and TAS in breast carcinoma patients and control cases
Values are presented as mean±SEM.
VEGF=vascular endothelial growth factor; MDA= malondialdehyde; TAS=total antioxidant status.
*Statistical analysis was done by independent Student's t-test. All statistical analyses were two-tailed and a value of p<0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Correlation between VEGF, MDA, and TAS in breast carcinoma patients
VEGF=vascular endothelial growth factor; MDA=malondialdehyde; TAS=total antioxidant status.
*Correlation is significant at the 0.05 level (2-tailed); †Correlation is significant at the 0.01 level (2-tailed).
Levels of VEGF, MDA, and TAS in breast carcinoma patients in relation to their menopausal status
Values are presented as mean±SEM.
VEGF=vascular endothelial growth factor; MDA=malondialdehyde; TAS=total antioxidant status.
*Statistical analysis was done by independent Student's t-test. All statistical analyses were two-tailed and a value of p<0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Levels of VEGF, MDA, and VEGF in breast carcinoma patients in relation to the clinical stage
Values are presented as mean±SEM.
VEGF=vascular endothelial growth factor; MDA=malondialdehyde; TAS=total antioxidant status.
