Abstract

The title compound, [Au(C(26)H(30)B(10)P(2))(C(26)H(30)B(9)P(2))]·0.5CH(2)Cl(2)·0.5H(2)O, contains two independent complex mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The gold(I) centres display a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The complex is stablized through weak intra-molecular π-π stacking (CgCg = 4.17 Å) and edge-to-face inter-actions (H⋯Cg = 3.21 Å). Adjacent mol-ecules inter-act through C-H⋯π (H⋯Cg = 2.88 Å) and B-H⋯π (H⋯Cg = 3.15 Å) contacts, forming a three-dimensional network, with solvent mol-ecules occupying the cavities. One of the phenyl groups was disordered over two sites with occupancy factors of 0.65 and 0.35.

Related literature

The chelating P-donor ligand 1,2-bis­(diphenyl­phosphino)-1,2-dicarba-closo-carborane has been used to prepare 2-, 3- and 4-coordinate complexes of gold(I) (Crespo et al., 1992 ▶, 1994 ▶; Al-Baker et al., 1985 ▶). Coordination of this ligand has often led to deboronation of the closo-carborane cage to afford the corresponding nido-carborane in polar solvents (Teixidor et al., 1995 ▶, 1996 ▶). A non-solvated crystal structure of the title compound has been reported previously (Crespo et al., 1997 ▶). Facile deboronation of the carborane cage in polar solvents has also been observed when substituents α to the cage are electron withdrawing (Shaeck & Kahl, 1999 ▶; Ioppolo et al., 2007a ▶,b ▶). In contrast, our group has shown that ligands containing the thermodynamically stable 1,12-carborane cluster do not degrade upon complexation to gold(I) (Ioppolo et al., 2007a ▶,b ▶). Boron-containing ligands and their respective complexes are of inter­est for potential application in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) (Crossley et al., 2005 ▶, 2007 ▶; Todd et al., 2005 ▶; Ioppolo et al., 2007a ▶,b ▶; Ching et al., 2007 ▶). Experimental. The crystal was coated in Exxon Paratone N hydrocarbon oil and mounted on a thin mohair fibre attached to a copper pin. Upon mounting on the diffractometer, the crystal was quenched to 150(K) under a cold nitrogen gas stream supplied by an Oxford Cryosystems Cryostream and data were collected at this temperature.
Geometry. All e.s.d.'s (except the e.s.d. in the dihedral angle between two l.s. planes) are estimated using the full covariance matrix. The cell e.s.d.'s are taken into account individually in the estimation of e.s.d.'s in distances, angles and torsion angles; correlations between e.s.d.'s in cell parameters are only used when they are defined by crystal symmetry. An approximate (isotropic) treatment of cell e.s.d.'s is used for estimating e.s.d.'s involving l.s. planes.
Refinement. Refinement of F2 against ALL reflections. The weighted R-factor wR and goodness of fit S are based on F2, conventional R-factors R are based on F, with F set to zero for negative F2. The threshold expression of F2 > σ(F2) is used only for calculating R-factors(gt) etc. and is not relevant to the choice of reflections for refinement. R-factors based on F2 are statistically about twice as large as those based on F, and R- factors based on ALL data will be even larger.
