Assessment of myocardial perfusion and viability with technetium-99m methoxyisobutyl isonitrile.

G A Beller1, A J Sinusas, D D Watson.

Abstract

The clinical application of Tc-99m Sestamibi imaging in acute myocardial infarction should be most useful. The capability of assessing risk area during acute coronary occlusion and degree of myocardial salvage after reperfusion offers a noninvasive means to assess the benefit of therapeutic interventions aimed at reducing myocardial ischemic injury. Further studies in larger numbers of patients appear warranted to identify the precise worth of this new imaging technique relative to other existing noninvasive imaging methodologies in clinical practice.
