Abstract
BACKGROUND: Behavioural and psychological symptoms are associated with dementia, but are also present in a significant number of the older population without dementia. Here we explore the distribution of behavioural and psychological symptoms in the population without dementia, and their relationship with domains and severity of health and cognitive impairment.Entities:

Prevalence of symptoms N(%) across MMSE groups (top) MCI classification (middle) and MCI subtypes (bottom). All percentages are back-weighted to the population. P-values correspond to a likelihood ratio test of differences across groups.

Symptoms are included in each factor if their factor loading is >0.3 (symptoms loading >0.25 but <0.3 are shown in brackets). Key to symptoms: mis = misidentification, hal = hallucinations, wan = wandering, ela = elation, apa = apathy, anx = anxiety, dep = depression, per = feeling of persecution, irr = irritability, agi = agitated behaviour, sle = sleep problems.
