Abstract
BACKGROUND: Pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) varies considerably in heart failure (HF) despite similar degrees of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. Bradykinin alters vascular tone and common variations in the kinin B2 receptor (BDKRB2) gene exists. We hypothesized that genetic variation in this receptor would influence PAP in HF.Entities:

Figure 1Relationship between bradykinin receptor B2 (BDKRB2) gene polymorphism and systolic pulmonary artery pressure (PAPsys) in heart failure (HF) patients. Patients who are homozygous +9 for the BDKRB2 demonstrate significantly higher PAPsys compared to those who are heterozygous or homozygous −9.
Figure 2Relationship between bradykinin receptor B2 (BDKRB2) gene polymorphism and plasma angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) level in heart failure (HF) patients. Although patients who are homozygous for the −9 BDKRB2 polymorphism demonstrate slightly lower plasma ACE levels, there was no significant trend across the groups.
