[Treatment of mandibular fracture].

Jarkko Muhonen, Heikki Leikomaa.

Abstract

Diagnosis of mandibular fracture is usually obvious, but may in unclear cases require several imagings. Even a fracture with good position will require follow-up. Treatment can usually be conducted systematically within the following day. Surgical treatment has become more common, with a fortunately rare need for intermaxillary fixation. Severe cases require several operations, e.g., osteotomies and bone transplantations. The patient's nutrition must be taken into consideration. Treatment of dental injuries is especially lengthy and involves expensive implants and prosthetics.
