On heat, respiration, and calorimetry.

David C Frankenfield1.

Abstract

The technique of indirect calorimetry developed with the sciences of nutrition and physiology over the course of hundreds of years. It was in fact fundamental to the establishment of these disciplines. This review describes the development of the technology and the principles of body function it has revealed.
