Abstract
Rat pups removed from the mother and placed in a warm incubator for 1 hour or more show a 50 percent reduction in ornithine decarboxylase activity in the brain and heart. The decline is not caused by lack of nutrition. Instead, these studies suggest that active maternal behavior is necessary to maintain normal polyamine metabolism in brain and heart of the pup during development.Entities:
