Abstract
BACKGROUND: Febrile neutropenia is a common complication in children undergoing chemotherapy for malignancies. A microbial agent is only identified in 15-30% of the fever episodes and corresponds mostly to bacterial findings.Entities:

One case with fatal outcome.
Rhinovirus detected in NPA.
Also presented in the “Co-presence of virus in NPA” group.
Significantly larger number of days in hospital as compared to the group with virus in blood (P < 0.05) and episodes with no agent found (<0.05).
Significantly larger number of days in hospital as compared to the group with virus in blood (P < 0.05) and episodes with no agent found (<0.05). Correlations between other clinical parameters were non-significant.
Comparison of molecular and conventional methods in the 22 episodes with virus detected to which capacity of detection overlapped.
