A review of antenatal care initiatives in primary care settings.

J Wood1.

Abstract

When hospital and community staff undertake initiatives to provide antenatal care in primary care settings the result can be improvements in women's access to care, higher uptake of care, better communication between women and professionals and more consumer satisfaction. This article reviews six such initiatives which show that pregnancy outcomes for mothers who receive their antenatal care in a primary care setting are at least as good as those for mothers who receive traditional shared care.
