Left ventricular-right atrial communication (Gerbode-type defect) following mitral valve replacement.

Ahmad Ali Amirghofran1, Abbas Emaminia.

Abstract

We report a case of left ventricular-right atrial communication in a 51-year-old patient following mitral valve replacement. Transesophageal echocardiography was used to make the diagnosis, and the communication was closed surgically using pledgeted sutures. The surgical management of such defects is discussed.
