Implications of metallic corrosion in total knee arthroplasty.

Abstract

Increasing concern about the effects of metallic release from prosthetic implants has developed in the past several years. This article serves to review the basic science of the effects of metallic corrosion products. The possible ramifications of metallic release in human studies and patients with prosthetic implants are presented.
