Figure 1Mental health cost components as a proportion of total annual mental health costs. Of the 1-year per patient total mental health treatment cost of $16,098, the largest single contributor was the cost of hospitalization (29%), followed by antipsychotic medication (23%). Each of the remaining 6 cost component categories contributed less than 10% to the total.
