Abstract
RATIONALE: Previous studies have shown that orexin-1/hypocretin-1 receptors play a role in self-administration and cue-induced reinstatement of food, drug, and ethanol seeking. In the current study, we examined the role of orexin-1/hypocretin-1 receptors in operant self-administration of ethanol and sucrose and in yohimbine-induced reinstatement of ethanol and sucrose seeking.Entities:

Ethanol (three groups) and sucrose (three groups) trained rats were tested over 2 weeks. The control injections (week 1) determined any effect of SB334867 on extinction baseline responding. Reinstatement (week 2) determined any effect of SB334867 on yohimbine-induced reinstatement of ethanol or sucrose seeking. Injections were administered i.p. 30 min apart. The second injection (yohimbine vehicle or yohimbine) was given 30 min before the start of the operant session

Fig. 3Effect of SB334867 on yohimbine-induced reinstatement of ethanol seeking. Mean ± SEM number of active lever presses during extinction and reinstatement tests.
