The caecum or not the caecum?

Siwan Thomas-Gibson1.

Abstract

(Table is included in full-text article). Positive, certain documentation of reaching the caecum is an important aspect of colonoscopy. Traditionally recording the anatomical landmarks was commonly used to document completion; more recently photodocumentation has been utilized. A number of authors have doubted the reliability of photodocumentation, and alternative methods have been explored. The reasons for determining caecal intubation and the ways in which this can be accurately recorded are discussed.
