Abstract
Inflammation plays a key role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Understanding the process of inflammation as it pertains to atherosclerosis has provided researchers with multiple opportunities to identify novel markers for use in cardiovascular disease management. This article discusses the inflammatory cascade as it pertains to atherosclerosis and some of the well-studied markers of inflammation. It also discusses the limitations of current risk stratification models and characteristics of a good biomarker.Entities:
