A simple non-surgical method of intrabronchial instillation for the establishment of respiratory infections in the rat.

G Smith1.

Abstract

A technique involving intubation of weanling rats for intrabronchial instillation of infectious material has been developed to produce a respiratory infection model suitable for experimental infection studies. The technique is performed simply with the use of a metal cannula and an intravenous plastic cannula, and dispenses with the need for illumination, laryngoscopy and extensive manipulation of the animal.
