Abstract
Decreasing C-reactive protein (CRP) in addition to decreasing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol may further decrease coronary heart disease risk. The effects of rosuvastatin compared with atorvastatin in achieving a combined target of LDL cholesterol <70 mg/dl and CRP <2 mg/L in 509 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was evaluated. CRP decreased significantly versus baseline in both treatment groups. Significantly more patients treated with rosuvastatin achieved the combined end point of LDL cholesterol <70 mg/dl and CRP <2 mg/L compared with atorvastatin by the end of the study period (58% vs 37%; p <0.001 vs atorvastatin). In conclusion, CRP was effectively decreased in patients with type 2 diabetes receiving rosuvastatin or atorvastatin, whereas rosuvastatin decreased LDL cholesterol significantly more than atorvastatin.Entities:
